Description:
Taking place on the reef, on slow, open-face waves between thigh and waist height, these lessons are ideal for surfers looking to master the take-off, control their board’s trajectory and trim along the open wave face.
LEVEL 2 – ORANGE
Technique & Practice
- Understanding the difference between the outside and inside, and maintaining good positioning in the take-off zone
- Feeling comfortable in the impact zone
- Performing the take-off at the lip of the wave
- Demonstrating a proper stance and a safe surfing base position
- Taking off from the lip and dropping down to the base of the wave
- Beginning frontside and backside turns on the wave face
General Knowledge & Wave Reading
- Ensuring and consolidating all requirements from previous levels
- Identifying take-off timing and the correct moment to stand up
- Reading waves, their different sections, and timing
- Understanding lineup rules
- Using reference points and identifying the wave’s potential
- Distinguishing lefts and rights before catching the wave
- Adapting board choice according to personal level and body type
Safety
- Ensuring and consolidating all requirements from previous levels
- Maintaining personal safety and the safety of other surfers during paddling, take-off, riding the wave, and exiting the wave
- Having autonomy in the inside and returning safely to the lineup
- Being able to swim from the outside to the inside without a surfboard
Suitable for: Surfers beginning their first turns and trimming on the wave face.
